After becoming a Game Designer I haven't focused much on improving my art. Rather I've focused my time on understanding "design" and improving my programming skills so I could better implement those designs. With that in mind I wanted to showcase my art roots as I believe a good designer is capable of working with various disciplines, and having a background and understanding in those areas can better there ability to collaborate. I've also found being a generalist allows me to prototype and iterate quickly, able to test ideas without the overhead of mobilizing a full team.
